Biggest Surprise: Cody Anderson

Entering the season, there weren’t a lot of high-level starting pitching prospects available at Class AAA Columbus. Danny Salazar started the season with the Clippers after struggling struggling through Spring Training, but after that, the cubbard was looking pretty bare.

Entering Cody Anderson.

Anderson was a prospect, but no one could’ve counted on him being this good, so soon.

In three starts, the 24-year-old righty is 2-1 with a 0.89 ERA. He’s only issued three walks in 30 1/3 innings. Not bad for a young guy.

Anyway, the Tribe was desperate for a fifth starter through the first three months of the season, and Anderson seized the job with a stellar Father’s Day debut.

Indian starters currently own the 19th best ERA in baseball (4.16), but with Anderson in the mix, they’re much better. Entering July 10, the current rotation of Corey Kluber, Carlos Carrasco, Trevor Bauer, Salazar and Anderson had a combined 3.64 ERA–good enough for third  in the AL and eighth in MLB.

Honorable Mention: Danny Salazar
