Duke Johnson’s Climb Up The Depth Chart.

Duke Johnson offers the Browns flexibility. He can catch the ball out of the backfield, in addition to handling the workload of a feature back.

Johnson’s intriguing because the Browns haven’t had a back like him in some time. He’s a playmaker when the ball is in his hands, and Cleveland seems deadset on giving Miami’s all-time leading rusher the ball with space–probably via swing and screen passes.

This isn’t to say Isaiah Crowell and Terrance West can’t be pass catching threats out of the backfield. The fact is we don’t know what they can do because the Browns didn’t try many of these passes last season.

This position battle will be decided during the preseason because it’s clear that no running back has hold on the RB1 spot, which leaves the job wide open for Johnson.
