“I think it’s the best defense I’ve seen them have easily since 1999.” -Jim Donovan
Above everything else people should be excited to see this Cleveland Browns defense.
This unit will be led by Pro Bowlers Joe Haden, Donte Whitner and Tashaun Gipson. These three players will be rounding out what should be a phenomenal secondary.
Other returners on the defensive side of the ball include: Paul Kruger, Karlos Dansby, Chris Kirksey, Barkevious Mingo and Desmond Bryant.
The Browns also made additions, such as first-round round draft pick Danny Shelton to stop the inside run. Second-round pick Nate Orchard will help set the edge on outside runs and rush the passer.
Also joining the Browns defense is free agent Randy Starks, a Defensive Tackle from the Miami Dolphins.
This defense was a big reason the Browns were contending for a playoff spot in the final month of the season–and now it’s been improved from what we saw in 2014.
Browns radio play-by-play man Jim Donovan is just one of the many who’s high on the defense.
When asked about where this year’s Browns defense sized up compared to past defenses, Donovan said, “I think it’s the best defense I’ve seen them have easily since 1999.”
I agree. This defense has the potential to become one of the best, if not the best defense in the NFL. If this group on defense reaches these high expectations, the playoffs might not be as far away as most fans think.
