3. Which Corner Back Steps Up?

The Browns have a talented secondary led by Donte Whitner, Joe Haden, and Tashaun Gipson. There are pieces in place but who will be that corner back who steps up for the team opposite Haden? Tramon Williams, a free agent signing from Green Bay will be the second corner starting, and has been to the NFL’s Pro Bowl, but with many younger options on the roster, it may be sooner rather than later he drops to being the nickel back.

Justin Gilbert had a very rocky and poor rookie season, resulting in him not being on the field nearly enough. Gilbert has said all the right things about last season, this offseason, and his preparation for this coming season.

That is good and all, but until he can prove he can stay on the field and be that talented corner, that means nothing. He is too talented to not take the next step as an NFL corner back. K’Waun Williams, an undrafted free agent last year, who replaced Gilbert often, looks to improve on his rookie year. However, can he continue to improve to be a reliable potentially number three corner given his size and competition at the position?

Browns rookie  Charles Gaines and Pierre Desir has a good opportunity to make an impact this year. Ifo Ekpre-Olomu‘s chances of competing realistically at a high level is now zero for 2015 as he is recovering from injury and will be counted on to play a role in the 2016 season.

Of the options the Browns have, don’t sleep on Desir. He is going to be doing some big things and is my favorite to step up big for the team.
