5 Reasons The Ohio State Buckeyes Will Crush Northern Illinois
Sep 12, 2015; Columbus, OH, USA; Ohio State Buckeyes defensive lineman Joey Bosa (97) is triple-teamed by Hawaii Warriors offensive lineman RJ Hollis (74), tight end Harold Moleni (87) and offensive lineman John Wa
2. 3rd Down Dominance
Joey Bosa is now back in the fold after missing the Virignia Tech game against Hawaii. What makes Bosa so good? He doesn’t need to be sacking the quarterback to make his presence felt.
Just look at the Hawaii film. The Rainbow Warriors employed a quick passing attempt that didn’t leave Bosa much time to reach the quarterback. He draws major attention and that doesn’t go lost on his teammates, who were able to record four sacks.
“Whenever 97 is on the field, the offense has got to worry about where he’s at,” co-defensive coordinator Chris Ash told the Columbus Dispatch. “So just his presence alone on the field is a big deal for us.”
Bosa and company came up huge for the Buckeyes on third down, as on nearly every one of Hawaii’s 14 attempts, the Buckeyes crowded the line with six defenders. This limited the Warriors’ option as the Buckeyes’ aligment forced Hawaii to keep a tight end back to provide pass protection.
The result? Hawaii was successful on 2-of-14 3rd-down attempts. Expect more of the same against the Huskies.
