What Is The Titans Defense Like?
While the Titans offense is new and full of potential, the Titans defense is the exact opposite.
The Titans defense did not have much working for them last season. After giving up 27.4 points/game last season (which tied them with Washington for the 3rd highest amount of points given up in the NFL) and 373.3 total yards/game (6th highest in the NFL) in 2014, their defense needs improved.
With the drafting of Mariota the Titans were restricted on what they could do to help out on the defensive side of the ball.
The Titans organization were so focused on improving the offense that the defense was basically left out to dry.
Out of the nine picks the Titans had in the 2015 NFL Draft only two were used on defensive players: Angelo Blackson, a DE out of LSU and Deiontrey Mount, an OLB out of Louisville (Mount did have an INT against the Bucaneers). These guys were picked in the fourth and sixth round respectively.
The Titans brought in a few free agents to help the defense as well. Those free agents includes: former Buffalo Bill Da’Norris Searcy and former San Francisco 49er Perish Cox. Those two players may be the headlining players of the Titans defense. Searcy and Cox are two defensive backs (Searcy a SS and Cox a CB) that comes from two great defenses.
Searcy and Cox combined for 8 interceptions in 2014. While two players don’t make for a good defense these two players will be a step in the right direction for Tennessee.
