My Prediction
A lot of people are gonna look at the Browns score from last week and the Titans score from last week and will simply pick Tennessee to win and move on.
I’m not one of those people.
I know Mariota had a great game Sunday and he has a lot of potential to become a solid QB in this league (I personally think he’ll become an Alex Smith type QB which opposed to popular belief is a good thing), but I don’t think he’ll be shattering rookie passing records this year. Yes he had great success on Sunday, but it was against the Buccaneers.
The Titans will be playing teams better than the Bucs for the rest of the season so I doubt his high amount of success will last throughout his rookie season. There’s a huge difference between the Buccaneers defense and the Browns defense. That should be apparent when Tennessee rolls into Ohio this weekend.
On the flip side (and I have no shame in playing this card), the Browns could play much worse than they did in their game against the Jets. Last week they had 12 penalties for 109 yards. Many of those penalties killed the momentum on key offensive drives. I expect the Browns to play a much cleaner game against the Titans because of that fact.
With the amount of talent the Browns have on this defense, it’s only a matter of time before they click and begin to play to their potential. This game against a rookie QB at home provides Cleveland with a huge chance live up to the hype. I expect them to take full advantage of it.
Offensively while Manziel did turnover the ball multiple times, he did look solid against one of the better defenses he’ll see this year. I have no reason to think that he wouldn’t improve this week going up against a terrible Titans defense.
After getting humbled like they did, the Browns are going to come out playing with more anger and energy. Combined with the fact that they will be playing in front of their home fans and against a weaker opponent has myself believing that the Browns will have a higher chance of winning than most people would think. The Browns will take care of business Sunday.
Tennessee Titans – 14
Cleveland Browns – 27
