Josh McCown Took The Reigns Back
Despite the fact that the majority of Browns fans disagree with the decision (See #StartManziel), Josh McCown will be the starting QB on Sunday when the Browns take on the Raiders.
While many argue one over the other, there isn’t a huge difference in terms of skill between the two quarterbacks right now. If I noticed anything last Sunday against the Titans, it’s that the offensive line makes their QB’s job much easier for whoever is behind center.
On Sunday, QB Johnny Manziel was only sacked twice by the Titans defense. Not only this, but the Raiders defense has yet to record a sack this year through two games.
That kind of pass rush versus this kind of pass protection will give our QB plenty of time to dissect the Oakland defense regardless of whose name is on the back of the jersey. Not to mention how underwhelming the Oakland defense has been against the Pass so far.
Oakland has given up 267 passing yards/game which is the 9th highest amount of yards per game allowed in the NFL. McCown will have a much easier time against Oakland than he did (well briefly did) against the tough Jets DB core.
Not only that but the running game has started to find its rhythm last Sunday. Isaiah Crowell and Duke Johnson combined for a total of 115 yards rushing and a TD on 27 attempts (15 attempts for 72 yards and a TD for Crowell and 12 attempts for 43 yards for Johnson).
If the Browns can get the running game going again on Sunday then that will be huge for the Browns offense as a whole. Getting the running game going will make life difficult for the Oakland defense.
