Saturday Superlatives
Player of the Game: Michigan State Offensive Line
When you win the line of scrimmage the way MSU’s offensive linemen Jack Conklin, Jack Allen, and company did, you deserve every bit of the reward. 166 rushing yards in the second half showed that this unit can really assert themselves who really punished the Buckeyes’ suspect run defense.
Play of the Game: Michael Geiger’s Game Winning Field Goal
At this point, there isn’t much to say. His 41 yard field goal ended Ohio State’s playoff hopes but kept Sparty’s alive.
Under the Radar Player of the Game: Tyler O’Connor, QB for Michigan State
Backing up the injured Connor Cook, O’Connor didn’t really do anything spectacular. What he did do was protect the football and convert on a handful of key 3rd and 4th down runs. When you lose arguably the best quarterback in school history, there is a lot of pressure. For O’Connor, his performance today was just enough to not be a deciding factor in a loss and just enough to help will this team to a big win.
