Staying in Houston, Trevor Ariza would be a huge addition if the Cleveland Cavaliers can convince the Houston Rockets that their season isn’t going as planned and that it’s time to shake things up.

The 6-foot-8, 215 wing man would a stellar addition. The Cavs need him to play defense, and Ariza’s good enough to start in the NBA.. In Cleveland, he’d be backing up Iman Shumpert.

While it’s a dream scenario, there’s a couple things to consider with Ariza.

The Rockets probably aren’t sellers–yet. Houston isn’t playing up to expectations this year, but the squad is still clinging to the seventh spot in the Western Conference as the Rockets record hovers around .500.

From the Cavs’ point of view, Cleveland would undoubtedly consider the financial impact of adding Ariza.

Ariza is in the second year of a four-year, $32 million contract he signed prior to last season. At $8 million per season, and taking into account how deep the Cavs are into the luxury tax, Ariza would really end up costing Dan Gilbert somewhere in the neighborhood of $32 million! That’s one expensive defensive specialist!

Would Ariza help? Yes. Would we love to see him suit up in the Wine and Gold? Absolutely. But Houston probably won’t move him, unless they make drastic changes.
