Leonte Carroo

OK, Leonte Carroo doesn’t have the height we’d like. E’s listed at 5-11, but two drops on 96 catchable balls? Receivers get paid to catch, and Carroo was fantastic while at Rutgers. As Jeff Dooley of Pro Football Focus noted, Carroo “is both a force with the ball in his hands (averaged 7.2 yards after the catch in 2014 and 2015 combined) and a threat to beat defenses deep (68 percent deep-ball catch rate ranked second in the nation)”

Carroo appeared poised to have a big Senior Bowl, as he was tearing up the practice field, but an ankle injury suffered during a drill just days before the game left Carroo on the sideline. That led to a 4.50 40-time at the combine. To some, Carro’s time was great considering the ankle injury. To others, it wasn’t fast enough.

Count NFL Draft guru Mel Kiper Jr. as one who though the combine solidified Carro’s draft status as a potential third-round pick, via NJ.com.

"“I think Carroo solidified at worst a third-round grade and probably a second-round grade,” Kiper said in a post-combine conference call. “You look at what he was able to do, 4.5 at 211 pounds, 6-foot. You have to love the way he played. When he wasn’t there, it was a different team and it was a different offense. He’s the kind of guy, it didn’t matter who was covering him, he got open.”"

Drafting Carroo at 32 would be too high, but there’s always the chance the Browns choose to upgrade another position early in the second round. With total 10 picks in the draft, Sashi Brown and company can always move up in the third round, or even later in the second, where Kiper projects him to be picked.

Perhaps he’ll be around at No. 65.  His injuries could be a concern when the draft commences. Besides the ankle injury leading up to the combine, Carroo dealt with ankle injuries during the 2015 season. He also missed time for violating curfew, in addition to an arrest on a simple assault charge that was eventually dismissed.

Despite not having elite size, he does have talent and would be an excellent find in the third round.
