Cleveland Browns 2016 NFL Mock Draft 2.0
By Ryan Rosko
Round 1. Best Player Available Heads To NE Ohio
No quarterback should be drafted this early in the draft. Given the holes on both sides of the ball, the Cleveland Browns select the best player available in the first round. In this mock, Ole Miss tackle
In this mock, Ole Miss tackle Laremy Tunsil is off the board, going first overall to the Tennessee Titans. If he did not go first, it would have been hard for the Cleveland Browns to pass on him.
Instead, the Browns select the top available option in Florida State defensive back Jalen Ramsey. Ramsey has played both as a cornerback and free safety. In the NFL, Ramsey will be able to play both with the expectation that it will be at a high level.
The selection of a quarterback will be tempting. That said, if the quarterback were to fail just like many other Browns first round quarterbacks, then the run of bad draft selections at that position continues.
The Cleveland Browns will not be disappointed however they decide to use Ramsey. Former free safety Tashaun Gipson left earlier this offseason as a free agent, so it would make sense for Ramsey to be his replacement.
On the other hand, the cornerback position has also struggled, so we could see the Browns moving Ramsey around like a chess piece. His versatility and athleticism is on another level and Cleveland has to consider the possibility. To get the most out Ramsey’s potential, the Cleveland Browns would be wise to keep him at one position (more than likely free safety) if possible.
