Round 3. Trade Alert And It Is For A Quarterback!

Quarterback. Penn State . Christian Hackenberg. 75. player. 53.

Jackson appears to have his quarterback in Robert Griffin III (at least for 2016), but what about after this upcoming season? Austin Davis has some talent but he has not been given a legitimate chance of winning the starting quarterback role. Davis has started in the past but it appears that being a backup quarterback will be his peak unless something random happens.

If Griffin can play well for the Cleveland Browns, then the team can address other issues going forward. There is no reason why Griffin cannot get back to his level of play in 2012. His issues in the past, which has led to being doubted is understandable.

I believe that Jackson will get Griffin to succeed again and looking for another quarterback will not be necessarily be needed for a few years. Until actual results like that become realistic however, it is better to be safe than sorry so drafting a quarterback is a must.

Should Griffin struggle, then someone needs to show they can play and that player in this draft is Christian Hackenberg. Prior to being coached by James Franklin, Hackenberg was considered a first-round pick, possibly as a first overall pick.

If Hackenberg were to play as a rookie, but struggles, the Cleveland Browns may draft a better player in a more established draft class next year in round one. That would be contingent on Jackson realizing Hackenberg is not a fit and knowing that he could acquire a better option. The possible target then could be Clemson’s Deshaun Watson.

Should Hackenberg come in and show that one-time potential of a first-round/possibly first overall pick talent, then Cleveland drafted a steal. That is why Cleveland trades up here to draft him.

Hackenberg’s value is too great to pass up. Other quarterbacks are drafted ahead of Hackenberg in the first two rounds, as well as the draft having a defensive-heavy start. For those reasons, Hackenberg was ultimately still available.
