Cleveland Indians: When Should Giovanny Urshela Play?

Time For Urshela To Step Up
Ric McElroy
When should the Tribe bring up Giovanny Urshela is a good question. The Cleveland Indians keep talking of building through the draft. Yet, they keep paying good money for one or two-year rental players that are either recovering from an injury or are at the tail end of their career.
If you believe in the player, then you stick with him then! Going up and down from the minors does not instill confidence in players and if they are not good enough, then teams should trade or cut them. Cleveland must know the time to get at least some value from players like Urshela. All too often this front office does not know that time.
If Jose Uribe continues to make errors while on defense and not hit at critical times, it would then be time for him to go and Urshela needs to be ready. Urshela’s defense has never been the question — it is his bat that is holding him back.
If Urshela can get that to come around in Triple A-Columbus, he should be up and Uribe gone. It is up to Urshela to take the big step up that is needed in his hitting.
