Cleveland Indians: When Should Giovanny Urshela Play?
By Ryan Rosko
Promote Him ASAP (Preferably By June) If He Improves In The Minors

The third base position is a position of musical chairs for the Cleveland Indians. We all saw a small portion of what Giovanny Urshela can do. Now, a larger sample is needed. He is the future at the position.
The concerns with Urshela’s hitting will not go away until he improves. The time for that improvement should not take too long, despite his very poor start to the season. Once he gets over the Mendoza line (which means he would have had a good run of success at the plate), then the call-up should be coming shortly after.
Should it take him some time to get over that mark, then the Cleveland Indians will have to determine how long they can they wait to promote Urshela. Hitting against big league pitchers is something players need to practice with. The more experience Urshela can get, the faster his development will be.
Yes, Juan Uribe has had a couple of recently good games, but overall his season has been disappointing. There’s no reason for the Cleveland Indians not to consider at least a platoon of Uribe/Urshela for the time being.

Cleveland is playing below average to average baseball. Playing Uribe regularly does not help the cause. I am not saying Urshela will improve the overall level of play, but he can improve the defense while getting better at the plate.
