Do Not Draft A QB

Joe Russo

It is not as much of a bold prediction as it is a bold statement. The Cleveland Browns by trading down and accumulating picks are making the right moves so far. Fans are uneasy, especially since it looks like the Browns are open to moving down again. So what is bold about that?

  • Anyone grading and analyzing the draft will absolutely love how the Cleveland Browns end up, with both extra picks and multiple players that can add quality depth to the roster. Remember, there were far too many undrafted free agents on the 53 man roster last year to really make any real impact. After injuries tore apart the depth chart, there were more players on the field that should have never made the roster than any of us would have liked.

But simply saying that the talking heads on television and radio will love the draft is only half of it. Cleveland Browns fans, who never seem to be happy, will go stark raving mad about anything the Browns do over draft weekend. They could gain three extra first rounders in 2017 and fans will still lose their minds over not drafting a quarterback initially second overall.

With needs literally all over the field, drafting a quarterback is not going to solve those issues. None of that matters to Browns fans, who seem to prefer the splashy move over the right move. The Browns could earn praise from across the nation, but if Sashi Brown and company do not make headlines with a pick, Browns fans will dismiss anything that happens as a failure.
