The Cleveland Browns will not land one of the two top quarterbacks in Thursday’s draft after trading the No. 2 overall pick to the Philadelphia Eagles, but missing out on Jared Goff and Carson Wentz may not end up being a bad thing.

Former Memphis quarterback Paxton Lynch should be the target for Browns’ brass during the first round.

The Browns made a slash by adding Robert Griffin III to their QB depth chart. He will join Josh McCown in the quarterback room, and presumably be the starter. Although VP of football operations Sashi Brown made it very clear Griffin will have to earn the job.

Lynch was the top quarterback on Todd McShay of ESPN’s draft board for the majority of the college football season, but fell off during Memphis’ late season collapse.

Still there is plenty to like about Paxton Lynch, and the argument could still be made for him being the top QB prospect in the draft.

Right now the Cleveland Browns sit at the No. 8 pick, but picking Lynch this high would be a reach. If the team decides to trade down to later in the first round, here are five reasons why they should seriously consider taking the former Memphis quarterback.
