Cleveland Cavaliers Ex-Coach Supports Tyronn Lue
By Ryan Rosko
A familiar face of the Cleveland Cavaliers likes what he is seeing from his old team.
According to Chris Haynes of the Cleveland Plain Dealer, former Cleveland Cavaliers head coach David Blatt recently expressed support to his successor, Tyronn Lue. The interaction between the two men occurred when the Cavs were in Atlanta facing off versus the Atlanta Hawks.
At the time of the Cavaliers coaching change, Blatt had led the team to a 30-11 record which was the best in the Eastern Conference. Both Lue in his preparation for playoff games and Blatt being linked to multiple teams’ coaching searches are very busy right now.
Yet, that did not stop Blatt from contacting Lue. That act of professionalism shows that although it would have been nice to still be with the Cleveland Cavaliers, Blatt does not have any ill-wishes towards Lue or the team.
Going forward, whether it is this offseason or more likely next offseason, Blatt will get a head coaching job again. The next time those two speak, Lue could be both an NBA champion as a player and as a head coach. Remember, Blatt also won multiple championships around the world but the one he is still striving for is an NBA championship.

Credit is due to Lue as he really took a hold of his position and makes everyone accountable including LeBron James. Currently, Lue has an undefeated coaching record in the playoffs.
The success Lue has achieved so far is a testament to the approach he has taken since being promoted. Having a healthy Kevin Love and Kyrie Irving in the playoffs also helps the situation very much, something Blatt did not have the chance of working with.
Had those two players been healthy last season, the Cleveland Cavaliers would have been very successful, but having a run that Lue is currently on is pushing it. Both the players and Blatt were still figuring things out this time last year. Unfortunately, it started to become clearer and clearer that it was likely too late.

If the roles were reversed, would we be seeing the same type of Cleveland Cavaliers success? Both Blatt and Lue never were head coaches in the NBA prior to coming to Cleveland. Multiple players have gone either straight from playing or were retired for a couple of seasons to then earning a head coaching job.
The reality of roles being flipped-flopped starting last year could realistically have happen. However, Blatt’s previous experience overseas is what gave him the initial nod as head coach.

As we watch the Eastern Conference Finals play out, the Cleveland Cavaliers are getting very close to winning a championship. Looking back at when this coaching staff was put together, not many people would have predicted that by the second season Lue would be the coach in charge. Now that he is, it is hard to imagine Lue not making history with winning a championship in his first season.
