Cleveland Cavaliers: Bucks Reached A Deal With Delly
By Ryan Rosko
Cleveland Cavaliers point guard Matthew Dellavedova‘s time in NE Ohio looks to be over.
Free agents are agreeing to crazy and bizarre contract offers left and right. Now Matthew Dellavedova is off of the free agent market after agreeing to a contract that will be hard for the Cleveland Cavaliers to match.
Delly has reached a deal with the Milwaukee Bucks on a four-year, $38.4 million contract. Dellavedova is a restricted free agent, so Delly to the Bucks is no guarantee although it is very likely.
The Cleveland Cavaliers will have three days to match his offer. Otherwise, Cleveland will face off versus Dellavedova regularly as he would go from the reigning champions to a fellow Central division team.
Although the Bucks and Cavs are not rivals, despite being in the same division, Milwaukee has not backed down from Cleveland (especially since LeBron James returned). Had Dellaveodva not agree with Milwaukee, he had interest from other multiple teams interested in signing him.

In less than one day, the Cleveland Cavaliers have lost center Timofey Mozgov to the Los Angeles Lakers and is likely to officially lose Delly in no more than three days. Whether the Cavs lose more free agents remain to be seen.
I have stated before that Delly is an average player at best. The contract he agreed to was market value, but he is not worth that price. Eventually, the Bucks will realize that they overpaid him. Then again, they had to in order to sign him.
Now the Cavs have a decision to make — Do they match his offer? This is an easy one — No! The Cleveland Cavaliers’ payroll will be over the limit again and with no set deal yet with guard J.R. Smith and others, who knows how high their payroll will be.

For basically just a few moments during the playoffs as well as the occasional opportunity to be a defensive nuisance, Delly did very well for himself. Besides, it is time for the Cavs to move on from him.
There were and still are players on the open market who matched or exceeded Dellavedova’s production last season of 7.5 points and 4.4 assists per game. Cleveland did acquire Oakland University point guard Kay Felder as a possible replacement.
The Cavs also could wait for the craziness to settle before finding another backup point guard option. Should that happen, then it would be clear Cleveland and head coach Tyronn Lue does not view fellow guard Mo Williams as nothing more than an end of the bench veteran player.

Dellaveodva is a classy person, who often would socialize with people in Cleveland and the surrounding areas. Yet, basketball is also a business. Remember the plays when Delly had to step up his game for the team because Dellavedova returning to the Cleveland Cavaliers is not going to happen.
