4 Cleveland Browns Stuck In The Dawg House Following Baltimore Ravens Loss
1A. NFL Officials
NFL officials, you will be joining Erving in the Dawg House.
Criticizing the officials is warranted, and I’m not someone who likes to blame referees.
Yes, the Browns blew a 20-point lead. This game shouldn’t have come down to the last play. However, for a game to be decided on a phantom taunting call is incomprehensible.
Pryor caught the ball out of bounds. He proceeded to toss the ball to the official when it landed on Ladarius Webbs’ helmet. Anyone with eyes can see Pryor had no intent for that to happen. He didn’t heave the ball with aggression, or say anything to him. He tossed the ball to the referee, and walked away.
The official didn’t see it that way.
Instead, he called him for the penalty which negated a 20-yard gain that had the Browns close to the goal line. With the way momentum was going, they would have won the game.
There were also numerous questionable calls throughout the game for both teams. Pryor was called for offensive pass interference in the first quarter, which wiped out a 10-yard gain. He and Webb were both fighting for position, and nothing should have been called.
The second head-scratching call was on Stephen Paea. He got called for roughing the passer, even though he clearly got pushed down into Flacco.
The Ravens would score a touchdown on the next two plays. For Baltimore, in the third quarter, linemen Marshal Yanda and Ricky Wagner were called for chop blocking.
That can be called on every other play in the NFL. The penalty stopped their momentum, and gave the ball back to the Browns.
The whole game had suspect calls, but i’m not going through each one. Either way, that officiating crew should be ashamed of themselves for calling a horrible game.
They should all be reviewed, and never allowed to officiate in the NFL again after the disgraceful performance by them.
Next: Warrant Out For Josh Gordon
Most of the officials are part-time, so the league won’t have any trouble finding replacements.
Honorable Mention: The whole offensive line, Tramon Williams, Patrick Murray
