3. Duke Johnson

This is the first time offense for running back Duke Johnson. He had one of the most controversial fumbles this season, maybe ever. Johnson was easily the best halfback on the team when Crowell had his struggles last season, and in the first game this year.

He hardly fumbles the ball, and he’s got great hands out of the backfield–especially for only being 5-foot-9. I even thought he was being groomed as the main back, but Crowell has had something to say about that.

While he hasn’t made a lot of mistakes during his career, Sunday was a tough one. He only had eight carries for 45 yards. He just wasn’t able to get it going against the Redskins defense. But the biggest story in the game was the “fumble” by Johnson.

With nine minutes to go in the fourth quarter, Jackson called a draw up the middle for him. As Johnson ran it, one of Washington’s linebackers got a hand on the ball as he was heading down on he ground.

The pile-up occurred, but Johnson came up with the ball. He had it in his right hand in front of the officials face. But instead of giving the ball back to the Browns, they rewarded it to the Redskins.

It’s not humanly possible to put the football right in a person’s face, and they give it to the other team–until Sunday. This was the worst call I have ever seen called in a NFL game since the “Fail Mary” play between the Green Bay Packers and Seattle Seahawks in 2012.

According to Zac Jackson of NBC Sports, NFL vice president of officiating, Dean Blandino stated that it was a “bad visual” and that possession was ruled to Washington before Johnson came out with the ball. That was the fastest change of possession in the history of sports!

Luckily, they didn’t score on the possession, but the overall decision was a joke. The NFL should be ashamed of themselves. Either way, Johnson must get back to his old habits, and play better next week against a solid defense in New England. He must have a strong bounce back game.
