Indians Playoffs: The Tribe took a 1-0 lead over the Boston Red Sox thanks to some nifty managing by Terry Francona.

Andrew Miller. That’s the name a lot of clubs wanted at the MLB trade deadline, but only the Indians were smart enough to pull the trigger on a deal with their eyes set on the postseason.

Chris Antonetti and GM Mike Chernoff traded away a potential future All-Star in Clint Frazer for a relief pitcher that doesn’t even close, but Miller’s value was never more evident than in Game 1.

In the top of the fifth, manager Terry Francona could feel the game slipping away from Trevor Bauer. Francona didn’t waste anytime in brining in his big left-handed reliever.

And how did Miller reward his skipper? He faced eight hitters and got six outs, including four by the way of strikeout.

This victory belongs to the bullpen and Miller set the tone.

Miller threw 40 pitches in the contest. So did Cody Allen, who recorded his first five-out save of the 2016 campaign. Tito took every ounce of guts this bullpen had to offer and put it up against the best the Red Sox could muster. Because of it, Tito looks like a genius heading into Game 2.
