Cleveland Cavaliers: 5 Potential Trades, Free Agent Targets Who Can Help Later This Season
Mario Chalmers, Free Agent
Mario Chalmers make sense for the Cavaliers. He’s a veteran teammate of LeBron James who knows what it takes to win a championship.
Unfortunately, Chalmers suffered an Achilles injury back in march. He’s been cleared to return to the court, but the injury is serious enough the the Cavs will probably continue to monitor his health.
It’s been reported that the Cavs are expected to sign Chalmers when the former Heat guard is healthy, according to ESPN, via Sir Charles in Charge.
“…rumbles persist that Cleveland has strong interest in reuniting LeBron James with his old Miami teammate Mario Chalmers when the veteran point guard is sufficiently healthy to return from Achilles surgery in March.”
Chalmers has name recognition, but I’m not sure how much he’d actually help the Cavs.
A lot could change before March. Kay Felder may prove that’s he’s a capable backup. But chances are, the Cavs are going to realize how much they miss Matthew Dellavedova.
Chalmers can’t defend. And the one thing he can be counted on to do, which is score, may be hampered by his ability to transition back to NBA game-speed while dealing with his Achilles.
