2016 World Series: How Will The City React If The Indians Win Tonight?
The 2016 World Series returns to the Cleveland for Game 6, and the city should be a powder keg ready to explode should the Indians knock out the Cubs.
If the Cleveland Indians beat the Chicago Cubs in Game 6 of the 2016 World Series, expect the downtown Cleveland area to go nuts.
The Indians are in the World Series. The Cavs play the Rockets at The Q. Tip-off was bumped up to 6 p.m. to accommodate the 8 p.m. World Series start time.
When the buzzer sounds at the Q, expect every single one of those fans to flock toward Progressive Field to bask in the fact that the Tribe is one win away from baseball immortality.
A Cleveland team has its first chance to clinch a championship at home for the first time since the Cleveland Browns defeated the Baltimore Colts in the 1964 NFL Championship game.
Cleveland’s sports curse finally ended courtesy of LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers. Northeast Ohio celebrated the moment, and is still showing off its championship smile.
We didn’t care that Kevin Love, Kyrie Irving, J.R. Smith and the gang popped champagne 2,000 miles away. We all thanked the heavens that our long suffering city was finally freed from sports hell.
But now the Indians have a chance to do something special.
And the downtown area is going to be a power keg ready to explode.
If the nation thought Cleveland was crazy after the Cavs won, get ready to see an even crazier celebration.
A lot of older millennials (including myself) grew up rooting for those Tribe teams of the mid 1990s. Albert Belle. Kenny Lofton. Carlos Baerga. These names were synonymous with summer.
Those were some great teams, yet they never crossed the finish line.
In some ways, a lot of us who grew up watching those teams felt like a little something was missing from our childhood. We wanted to be a part of history so bad, and the Indians came so close, but left us disappointed.
None-the-less, those teams created fans for life.

Baseball’s still America’s national pastime for a reason. Old, young. Man, woman. Big, tall. Most of us played the sport growing up. Lots of us have memories of visiting the old Cleveland Stadium with a loved one who’s no longer with us.
The Indians hold a special place deep in our hearts. All of our teams do. But a championship on the corner of Carnegie and Ontario will cause the city to erupt like the nation’s never seen before.
On the flip side, there is a dark side to this fairy tale. The Indians are up against a former Cy Young Award winner in Jake Arrieta. He quieted Indians bats in Game 2.
Should the Tribe come up losers in Game 6, the city will delve into DEFCON 5.
Some Indians fans will try and calm themselves down by reassuring each other that Corey Kluber is scheduled to pitch Game 7.
The problem with Game 7 is that it’s Game FREAKING 7. Nothing is guaranteed. Take nothing for granted.

Clevelanders are still getting used to winning. It was just four short months ago the Cavs won the title. Unfortunately for the Indians, LeBron James isn’t on the roster.
As they say, Cleveland, enjoy the ride!
