Washington Nationals

The Nationals have a Ben Revere problem. The Nats expected big things out of Revere this offseason, and he didn’t deliver. He was a career. 295 hitter entering his age 27 season.

Now, Revere heads into his final season of arbitration. MLB Trade rumors predicts Revere will make $6.3 million via arbitration. If that price is too steep for the Nationals, they can non-tender the outfielder before the Dec. 2 deadline, making him a free agent.

If this happens, the Nationals will be looking for outfield help, and Davis would be a solid addition based off what he did in 2016.

Revere was about as productive as Congress. From the Washington Post:

“Revere strained his oblique on opening day, missed a month and two days, and never got right. He lost his job by the end of July to a rookie who had one month’s professional experience playing in the outfield, and failed to make the postseason roster. He finished with a .217 batting average, .260 on-base percentage, and .300 slugging percentage in 103 games. His .560 OPS was 232nd out of 232 players with at least 350 plate appearances. A year after compiling a 1.9 WAR, based on FanGraphs’ calculation, he netted a -1.2”

Davis signed a one-year, $5.25 million. At 35, he led the American League in stolen bases (43), while batting .249 with 12 homers and 48 RBIs. He’ll play next season at age 36.

For the price Revere is expected to make in free agency, the Nationals could probably entertain talks to bring Davis to Washington.
