The Ohio State football team demolished Maryland yesterday, but many top teams lost yesterday. How is that going to change next week’s rankings?

This past week’s rankings showed some changes from the previous week. However, after how the games played out yesterday, the College Football Playoff Committee probably wished they could have a reset button. Although Ohio State won, uncertainty still surrounds their future.

Six of the top 14 teams lost, including the second (Clemson), third (Michigan), and fourth (Washington) teams in the country. Saturday was the first time since October of 1985 that the numbers two through four all lost on the same day!

Due to Michigan’s loss against Iowa, Ohio State fans need Penn State to loss one of their last two regular season games even more. However, I doubt that happens because their opponents are Rutgers and Michigan State.

Even if Ohio State wins out, they will need a loss to happen to get into the Big Ten Championship game. Should no championship game end up happening, but the Buckeyes still wins out, they would maintain a very good chance of making this year’s playoff.

Plenty of football still needs to be played, but in the meantime, what could we expect to see come Tuesday night?

Playoff Teams’ Rankings Are Anyone’s Guess

Alabama obviously stays atop the list, but then what? Ohio State will move up to two thanks to the losses in front of them, as well as how they won in recent weeks. The three and four spots are anyone’s guess, but Clemson stays in the top four at three with Louisville locked in at four.

More from Factory of Sadness

Despite their losses, Clemson looked much more impressive than Michigan did. Had it been more of an even till, then placing them at three and four could have happened.

Ohio State has Michigan State on Saturday before their annual meeting in “The Game” after Thanksgiving. If Ohio State can get into their championship game, then they will stay at two.

On the other hand, if the Buckeyes are unable to do that, they will remain in the top four but not at two. Regardless, any change won’t occur, if at all for a couple of weeks.

Penn State Continues To Impress People

Penn State got their momentum going following their win over Ohio State. Since then, they have continued to increase up through the rankings weekly. Last week they were 10th.

Another increase will happen Tuesday night, but how far? Ohio State, Michigan, and Wisconsin all will eventually be in the six. Meanwhile, Penn State won’t be far behind. Expect to see four Big Ten teams in the top eight as that is where PSU deserves to be heading into their Rutgers game.

Colorado Continues To Fly Under The Radar

Do not underestimate Colorado. Yes, it has been years since they have had a legit team, but they are back. Their mix of youth and experience also bodes well for them and should be a contender out west for some time. Due to their success, it wouldn’t be out of the realm of possibility of stating that they replaced Oregon in the Pac 12 Conference.

Speaking of the Pac 12, if their season ended today, Colorado would be playing in their conference championship game versus Washington State. Now, the Buffaloes are from the team Ohio State. That said, if the Buckeyes ended up in the Rose Bowl, Colorado could be their opponent.

Last week Colorado was 12th. In this week’s rankings, they will crack the top 10 at 10th overall. The success the Buffaloes has had is very much deserved. Who knows just how high of a ranking they can earn this season.
