Josh McCown

This could be the end of the road for Josh McCown.

This is his first time as a candidate on the Dawg House. Once Robert Griffin went out with injury, McCown came in and wasn’t bad. He gave them the best chance to win games, and be competitive. But it didn’t last long.

The garbage disposal that is the offensive line couldn’t block for him, and he missed the next six weeks with a broken collarbone. McCown got the start against the New York Jets, and looked great in the first half.

But it was a different story after halftime.

He overthrew the ball, didn’t have any protection from the line, and the run game made it tough to keep the defense honest.  It was the return of Arizona Cardinals, Oakland Raiders McCown.

He didn’t see any action until Thursday against the Ravens in the second half of the game. Kessler was playing fine to me. He struggled to go deep, but he made the right throws and plays to keep it competitive.

For an unbeknownst reason, Jackson bought in McCown, and he was awful. He became a gun-slinger, and threw two interceptions that weren’t anywhere near Browns receivers. The pick he threw to Eric Weddle gave me terrible flashbacks of Reed terrorizing Cleveland quarterbacks at the end of games.

He got stripped sacked by Suggs, and had two balls batted down by the new Browns Kryptonite, Brent Urban.  Urban was the player that blocked the potential game winning field goal by Travis Coons last season on Thursday Night Football.

Coincidence? I think not.

McCown looked lost and out of place. Maybe the fear of re-injuring the collarbone behind the line is weighing in on his mental aspect of the game, or he just doesn’t have it anymore, but he had no business being in there in the first place.

Hopefully, he doesn’t see another minute of action this season.

They need to continue to let Kessler develop and not decide to take him out of a winnable game for no reason. If it isn’t Kessler, give Griffin the reigns when he returns.
