The Cleveland Browns defeated the San Diego Chargers, 20-17 for their first win of the 2016 season.

All to easy as the Chargers open up with a long pass to Travis Benjamin, who beat Joe Haden badly. A couple plays later San Diego converted 4th and 2 and then score a touchdown on a 1-yard pass to former Kent State basketball standout Antonio Gates.

However the Browns drive the field, even converting a 4th down conversion to Gary Barnidge, and score on an 8-yard run by Isaiah Crowell! The Browns gave up their 32nd sack in the last six games on the drive.

San Diego takes the kick off and stalls in Browns territory with a few good blitzes by Cleveland’s defense and has to settle for a field goal.

The Browns have yet to stop the Chargers from scoring on offense. The defense can’t get off the field.

On the next drive, RGIII hands to Crowell and he has the edge and needs one block, but doesn’t get it from, guess who, Cameron Erving standing there looking around!

But the Browns prevail and score on another rushing touchdown by Isaiah Crowell. Point after is good, 14-10 Browns in the second quarter. The Browns first lead since game 10, 281 football minutes.

Jamar Taylor picks off Philip Rivers in Cleveland territory and returns near the 30.. Rivers under threw Gates on a deep out.

Browns drive comes up short and they settle for a 49-yard field goal from Cody Parky. On the drive there was a Terrell Pryor sighting on a first-down completion. Score 13-10, believe it or not Cleveland!

No one could do much before halftime came with the score 17-10, Browns. Entering the half, Cleveland had led before this season, but they came out in the second half and stunk up the game.

A salute to All-Pro Joe Thomas and his playing over 9,000 consecutive snaps and counting! What a great person both in and out of uniform!

Browns can’t score yet again in the red zone and a 27- yard field goal by Parkey is the result. Score now 20-10 Cleveland. Almost eleven minutes left in the third quarter.

San Diego scored on a one handed stab by Tyrell Williams. The Browns put up a fight but the Chargers made plays when it counted. Browns still lead 20-17.

RGIII then has to leave for concussion protocol and is replaced by Cody Kessler. Kessler first pass, which came on 3rd and 10, was catchable, but dropped by first-round pick Corey Coleman.  Browns forced to punt.

With Joe Haden out with a neck problem, the defense made a stand and held on 2nd and 1 and 3rd and 1. Tracy Howard put  a hit on Gates and caused a drop. A punt ensued on fourth down after the Browns got stuffed on a third-down running play.

The real Browns returned  with their normal non-scoring mode in the second half! This has been typical all year.

The Chargers were held and try a field goal but Jamie Meader blocked the kick! Is this the savior the Browns need?

Cleveland gets one first down and then forced to punt at the two minute warning. Phillip Rivers made this thing close an probably had Browns’ fans stomachs tied up in nots. He hit Gates wide open on 4th and 10.

San Diego moved closer to field goal range and got on the field to try a field goal. The snap came with one second on the clock, but they missed a 45-yearder to end the game.

Now the question is, is this a good thing as it may cost the Browns the first choice in the draft. But that’s another story!
