Ohio State’s poor play has impacted their conference games now and the Voice of the Fan is not impressed.

Well, the Ohio State basketball team is back to playing Big Ten teams again, but it doesn’t look a lot different from last year. They played Purdue tough in the Schottenstein Center and barely came away with a loss.

A very good Purdue team rated was ranked in the top 25 of the nation at the time of the game. The Buckeyes gave them all they could handle, but they still dropped to 0-2 in conference play.

Next on the docket was a Minnesota team with only two losses on the season, but they were still beatable. It was an away game which has put the Buckeyes at a disadvantage in the last couple of years, as they don’t really seem to play well consistently away from the Schott!

More from Factory of Sadness

Sure enough Ohio State fell behind early and seemed like they couldn’t hit a barn with a beach ball! They missed shots and turned the ball over in numerous occasions.

The Buckeyes would get to within five or six points of a tie but the Gophers pulled away again. Even coach Thad Matta was bemoaning the chances they had, a couple at least, but just couldn’t make up the ground needed to win.

That game showed again the lack of leadership on this year’s Ohio State team. They have no one to count on when it’s time to stand up and make crucial shots; There is no go-to guy.

Their offense consisted of throwing up three pointers and standing around on offense outside the three-point line. There were too many one on one confrontations and a lack of movement of any kind.

Not to mention the Buckeyes were only 11-21 from the free throw line! They kept hoisting up three pointers and missing at an alarming rate. When Ohio State did try to drive to the basket, they continued to get blocked.

Ohio State played well in spurts in about every game but their inconsistency is troubling.
Their lack of a go-to guy, who should be their lone senior, Marc Loving,  just cannot put it together and has not done so for four years! The more he and JaQuan Lyle try, the more they stumble over their own feet.
