Inconsistencies in all its forms is the popular word associated with Ohio State basketball. The Voice of the Fan expressed his thoughts and stressed that improvements must be made ASAP.

The inconsistent play displayed by Ohio State continues to plague them this season. Once again, they came out tonight versus Michigan and showed a lack of energy on both ends of the court.

This season’s Buckeye players seem to want to go to the basket but they have no plan when they get there. Unfortunately, most of the time when they do drive into the paint they get stripped or lose the ball via a turnover.

Despite all of that, Ohio State have had their moments and actually played inspired ball but it comes and goes. Their inconsistency is a large problem and has caused many loses to teams that the Buckeyes should not have lost to even though they had better talent.

I’m sure coach Thad Matta is scratching his head wondering how to get these players to play with energy all game. Even though Ohio State was not consistent, they did lead Michigan 36-35 at the half.

Ohio State out rebounded the Wolverines and that’s what kept them in the game. Let’s be real, it certainly was not their shooting. Meanwhile, Marc Loving‘s expressed the perfect example to their inconsistencies in the second half as he blew two layups on the same play.

Ohio State also got caught looking the wrong way on back cuts or getting faked out and lost containment. Shortly after, somehow the Buckeyes tighten their defense up and play smothering defense.

Yet, for some unknown reason they always seemed to play poorly at the start of games; So much so that Ohio State sometimes would fall behind by double digits! This makes them have to claw their way back and use more energy!

Tonight’s game was evident that Jae’Sean Tate needs to quit shooting threes. It not just bad it’s ugly!

The good thing for the Buckeyes tonight was that they did play good defense in the second half, which is something they have been doing lately. But will it last the entire half? Usually it doesn’t.

Every time it looks like the Buckeyes could get a semi comfortable lead they go back to playing dumb ball. Whether it is throwing it away, getting called for charging, throw up a hopeless shot or some kind of mistake, Ohio State has been unfortunately very consistent in doing that.

Had their inconsistent play been more complete, Ohio State likely would have had a commanding win. Instead, the Buckeyes eventually stepped up and won by four, 70-66. Will the energy and good play continue?
