The Cleveland Cavaliers are a championship contending team, but they need help. What areas of their team needs improved and who could be added?

There is no doubt in anyone’s mind that the Cleveland Cavaliers need some help. Two areas of need that come to mind when thinking about the Cavs’ roster are a backup point guard and another rim protector.

February 23rd is the trade deadline and the Cavs have already showed that they are willing to get better with their acquisition of Kyle Korver. Since coming to Cleveland, Korver is averaging a solid 9.3  points off the bench while shooting 43 percent from deep.

The Cavaliers had a very rough January as they went 7-8. A frustrated LeBron James expressed how he felt after a tough overtime loss to the Sacramento Kings stating that “We need a f***ing playmaker”.

The Cavs’ front office took note of this. There was a tryout for their open roster spot between Mario Chalmers, Kirk Hinrich, Lance Stephenson and Jordan Farmar.

According to ESPN’s Dave McMenamin, both Chalmers and Hinrich did not want to sign a 10-day contract. Stephenson has since signed with the Minnesota Timberwolves. So that leaves Farmer, to be available to sign. Farmar was told that if anyone from the tryout was to be signed it would be him.

Even if the Cavaliers can sign Farmar to the league minimum contract, that still leaves a hole in the rotation. Adding another big man is essential. This is where the Dallas Mavericks come into the equation. The Mavericks have a center that Cavs fans and players are used to seeing. He goes by the name of Andrew Bogut.

In order for the Cavs to sign Bogut, some things are going to need to happen. Cleveland’s current salary cap situation makes it very difficult to trade for the veteran center. However, if the Mavericks were to buy out Bogut, the Cavaliers could sign him as a free agent.

Another name that has been thrown around the Cavaliers is Jose Calderon who is currently with the Los Angles Lakers. Don’t let his age scare you away. Despite the fact Calderon is 35 years old, he can still make an impact with the Cavs.

Calderon thrives on facilitating the ball, and shots the ball at a high percentage. Being a career 47 percent shooter from the field and a 41 percent shooter from behind the arc certainly helps the Cavs’ interest in him.

However you look at it, the Cavaliers need to add that one missing piece that will carry them back to the promise land. By adding Korver they added a huge three-point specialist. Korver is learning his role with this team and after every game he is starting to look more and more comfortable.

Now that Golden State added forward Kevin Durant in the offseason, it is going to be even tougher to win it all again. Still, the Cavaliers proved to the world they have what it takes to hang with them.
