Rightfully so, the Cleveland Browns are looking at younger players to play quarterback, but could a veteran with an injury history come to Cleveland?

Who knows who is going to be the starting quarterback for the Cleveland Browns in the fall. It could be a player that is already on the roster like Cody Kessler or Robert Griffin III. Other names could be that of New England Patriots backup Jimmy Garoppolo or one of the many QB eligible prospects.

It is safe to say one of them will be Cleveland’s starter. Anything else is a pipe dream, something that would come out of left field. Speaking of an option out of left field that is highly unlikely but could be intriguing to some is Dallas Cowboys’ Tony Romo.

Romo has had success in the NFL, but he is also a shell of how he used to play. Due to the numerous injuries and emergence of Dak Prescott, Romo’s future is certainly up in the air.

That said, ESPN broke down a number of options on where Romo could land, including a case for him to be the Browns next quarterback. The piece was not put together by just one person which is why it was published by ESPN Staff.

As ESPN explained why Romo, 36 years old, would fit, they also explained why he would not end up as a member of the numerous organizations. So, how and why does ESPN view Romo as a Brown? Here’s what stood out:

"If they take a quarterback like Deshaun Watson or Mitch Trubisky with the No. 1 pick in the draft, they could bring Romo on to start until the younger guy is ready."

Now, what about the con side and how likely do they view such a partnership becoming reality?

"The Browns are simply too young and will not be ready to contend before the end of his current contract in 2019. Long shot, but not impossible."

ESPN made good points for both sides. Still, if Romo did not have the injury history he owns, considering him as a stopgap quarterback could have been worth considering. However, that is not reality, so there is point in believing he could or should land in Cleveland.

Since 2010, the longtime Cowboys starter has not started double-digit games in a season three times, including the last two seasons. In his career, Romo has thrown for 34,183 yards, 248 touchdowns, 117 interceptions, and an average quarterback rating of 97.1.

Besides, if the Browns really wanted to have a veteran and still draft a QB early, they can with someone else. After all, Cleveland cannot afford to have another injury riddled QB on their roster. That veteran could be Griffin, Kessler or even a potential free agent like Buffalo Bills’ Tyrod Taylor.

Cleveland is going to be a young team for the foreseeable future, so expecting a veteran quarterback as the guy would only be temporarily. Again, at least for the time being, that will go back to Griffin and Kessler.
