5 Longest World Series Droughts: Cleveland Indians Now Own Longest Streak
By Eric Pitcher
4. Milwaukee Brewers, Washington Nationals, San Diego Padres, 48 Seasons
These three teams have never won a World Series. The Nationals, formally known as the Montreal Expos, have never been to the Fall Classic.
Remember 1994? It could have been the Expos best shot to win it all. They finished with the best record in baseball, but there was no playoffs because of the player strike that ended the season on August 11, 1994.
In 1998 the San Diego Padres came so close, but were so far away. They ran into one of the most dominant dynasties baseball had ever seen. That team was the New York Yankees. The Yankees won the World Series in 1996, 1998, 1999, and 2000. Unfortunately for the Padres they were just another causality on the Yankees road to success.
Milwaukee hasn’t had much luck either ever since they have become a franchise. They’re lone World Series appearance came in 1982 when they were still in the American League. The Brewers had a 3-2 game lead over the St. Louis Cardinals but couldn’t hang on.
Out of these three teams, the Nationals have really revamped their lineup, and pitching. Washington should be one of the top teams in the NL to make the World Series and may just end up erasing their drought.
