Browns Free Agents: 6 Free Agents The Cleveland Browns Should Target
A.J. Bouye, CB Texans
From undrafted free agent to replacing a first-round draft pick, A.J. Bouye put himself on the map in his third year as pro, ranking as Pro Football Focus’ third-ranked corner.
Bouye totaled 48 solo tackles, one interception, one sack and 16 passes defensed in 15 games (11 starts).
The Browns are more likely to add corner depth in the draft, because they’ve already committed some of their free agent money to one of their own, Jamar Taylor, who signed a three-year $15 million contract before the end of the 2016 season.
However, Taylor’s better suited for the slot, and even with Joe Haden healthy, the Browns need to get better on the outside.
That’s where Bouye comes into the discussion. He’s young (26) and entering his prime years. His addition would be a big boost to the Browns secondary, who could start Haden, Bouye and Taylor. Cleveland also has Briean Boddy-Calhoun under contract. Calhoun had a nice rookie season, but it’s clear he still needs some polish.
Additionally, considering Haden’s injury history, the Browns can’t have enough depth at corner.
At 6-0, 191 pounds, Bouye has good size and is excellent at press man coverage.
Unfortunately, Bouye may never hit the open market. The Texas would really like to have him back in the fold, and have an estimated $25 million in cap space. With no other big name players to take care of, Houston could keep Bouye, even if the team has to overpay.
