Browns Rumors: Titans Going Hardest For Free Agent Terrelle Pryor?
In Cleveland Browns rumors, the Tennessee Titans are rumored to be aggressively targeting Terrelle Pryor.
The legal tampering period is doing just what it’s supposed to: creating rumors and buzz that keep in the NFL in all of the headlines.
Browns fans find themselves scanning many many of the rumors.
Cleveland.com’s Marry Kay Caboted reported the Tennessee Titans were one of five teams interested in Terrelle Pryor.
NFL scribe Mike Ortiz Jr. followed up that report a few hours later stating that sources informed him the Titans were most focused on Pryor, and Patriots free-agent Dont’a Hightower.
The Titans are a team on the rise, with Marcus Mariota entering his third season.
Tennessee has to get its budding superstar some help because it lacks a No. 1 receiver who can line up across the field from Rishard Matthews.
The question of whether or not Pryor is a No. 1 wideout can be debated, but he certainly has the physical attributes of a franchise leading wideout. Plus, he’s only played receiver one season and already has a 1,000-yard campaign attached to his resume. He’s only 28, and it’s likely his better days are to come at the position.
Cabot listed the Steelers as one of the potential suitors, but it seems unlikely Pittsburgh can sign the Three Rivers’ native son. Pittsburgh has just around $15 million in cap room.
While extremely unlikely, Fox Sports Ohio’s Bruce Drennan laid out the nightmare scenario of Pryor becoming a Steeler.
Cleveland’s front office is gambling that they know the market, in addition to other team’s cap situations, via ESPN Cleveland’s Tony Grossi.
"Former agent Joel Corry of CBSSports.com estimates Pryor’s value at a $12 million-a-year average (five years, $60 million). I’ve heard the Browns held the line way below that figure and Pryor believes he can get more. We’ll soon find out who’s right. One difference this time is that if Pryor does come back to accept the Browns’ offer, I wouldn’t expect them to be so haughty to yank it off the table, as they did to Schwartz. If Pryor does attract a number closer to his target, I would not expect the Browns to budge off their number. Playing into Pryor’s interest in seeking greener pastures has to be the Browns’ deplorable quarterback situation."
Pryor is free to talk with any team he’d like during this “legal tampering” period. The 49ers, Giants, and Eagles are also said to be interested.
