The Cleveland Browns’ quarterback position has underwent yet another change.

Since the start of the new work year for the NFL, the Cleveland Browns have made a number of moves. Among the decisions that already have been made is the acquisition of quarterback Brock Osweiler.

Coming into the new year, Cleveland had Robert Griffin III, Cody Kessler, and Kevin Hogan at quarterback. Now, we can remove one of those names from that list.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Browns will officially release Griffin today.

If Cleveland was not going to let Griffin go, he could have been given a roster bonus. After a spectacular rookie season with the Washington Redskins, his trajectory of play completely turned around. Griffin has not been the player teams at one time were excited about.

More from Factory of Sadness

Griffin only played in five games last season. Could 2016 be his last time to realistically start? It is very likely. Between his injury history and inability to make the necessary progress has led Griffin’s career to this current state.

Griffin could have had his career turn for the better in Cleveland, but that ultimately was not the case. He was more of a liability than a benefit to Cleveland.

In addition to Rapoport’s news on Griffin, he mentioned Kessler starting. Things can change in a snap, but if you look at how the Browns’ roster is coming together, it makes sense.

Unless shown otherwise, Kessler is a backup in the NFL. However, Cleveland did not have much of an offensive line to protect him and he got injured multiple times as a result. Despite that, he did well considering the circumstances.

According to Pro Football Focus, Kessler was the third ranked rookie quarterback in 2016.

More changes should continue to be made at quarterback. What exactly will the Browns do though is the unknown. After all, did we expect them to trade for Osweiler yesterday? Of course not!

With a rebuilt offensive line and more additional pieces to be added on offense, Kessler could be Cleveland’s choice for at least one season. Now that Griffin is not going to be a Brown anymore, he is going to last any longer in the NFL as a backup? In both of those cases, we will know those answers soon enough.
