Malik Hooker, S L.A. Chargers Round 1, Pick 7

A ball hawking safety in the mold of Ed Reed, Hooker (along with Jamal Adams) will be one of the top two safeties chosen when the NFL Draft begins April 27th.

Assuming Adams goes second or third to the 49ers or Bears, respectively (and I think he’s going to the 49ers), Hooker won’t be on the draft board very long.

His ceiling is probably higher than Adams’, but I think Hooker gets is the second safety off the board because the Ohio State product missed missed the combine with labrum and hernia injuries.  He was also unable to show his stuff at Ohio State’s pro day March 23.

Meanwhile, Adams is making the rounds this offseason. He participated in the combine. He’ll have his pro day and individual workouts. Plus, there’s years of tape to watch. That’s just not the case right now with Hooker.

Hooker intercepted seven passes in 2016, and returned three for touchdowns. Even with his inability to participate in workouts this offseason, it would be a shock if he’s still on the board after the Chargers pick at No. 7.
