The Cleveland Browns need a quarterback. How they go about adding to the position is the million dollar question.

Progress is being made on the Cleveland Browns‘ roster. However, one area of dire need still is at quarterback. Their current quarterback group consists of Brock Osweiler, Cody Kessler, and Kevin Hogan.

To express quickly how I feel about that trio is this: Thanks, but no thanks. Another quarterback is destined to be added by the Browns at the end of the month. Who their preference is remains to be seen.

For the sake of the argument, a popular fit is Texas Tech’s Patrick Mahomes. There is a lot to like about him, despite occasionally being tempted to risk some plays with his arm. Recently, fellow FoS Site Expert Nick Dudukovich expressed that Cleveland would need to trade back up into round one to select Mahomes.

"Look for the Browns to trade some picks with the Oakland Raiders at No. 24 to jump ahead of the Texans so they can draft the Texas Tech Gunslinger."

I’ll take it one step forward. The Browns have 11 picks this year, so they have the capital to make any move they desire. However, any team can trade up for any player, specifically a quarterback. That is of course as long as they are willing to include future picks.

Cleveland is likely forced with a tough decision. Do they select Mahomes at 12 or not? To a strong degree, passing on him there could risk their chances of landing him.

In addition, Cleveland may have to trade up from 12 rather than trading back into the first round. By trading up from 12, the Browns would secure Mahomes instead of playing the odds of hoping he is at a certain spot.

Dudukovich mentioned the Raiders as a logical spot to trade up. On the other hand, I would strongly add the Carolina Panthers at eight and Buffalo Bills at 10. By doing so, the Browns surpass the New Orleans too who may prefer to take a quarterback in round 1.

The quarterback run will come on April 27th. With that in mind, the question is when?

If it is early, the Browns’ tough decision will be their focus for the early part of the draft. On the other hand, should the defensive run start first as many expects to happen, Cleveland will have more flexibility.

Whether the Browns selects Mahomes at 12, in the top 10, or late in the first round, adding the former Texas Tech product could very well happen. The intrigue continues to build surrounding what the Browns will do. Regardless, whichever scenario plays out, pre-ordering a Mahomes jersey wouldn’t be the worst idea just in case.
