The Voice of the Fan looks into really if the hometown quarterback option is the best option for the Cleveland Browns.

The 2017 NFL Draft is a little more than a week away and many questions remain surrounding the Cleveland Browns. Is Texas A&M EDGE Myles Garrett the first pick in the draft by the Browns? Do they trade that pick to recoup more picks?

Are they so infatuated with selecting UNC quarterback Mitch Trubisky that they could go with him either at one or hope he’s still there with the 12th pick? Or perhaps Cleveland puts together a package including pick 33, to go back into the first round to get him.

My question is do they want him at all? Trubisky has only played one year in college. His stats were good but was his performance, especially against better football teams stellar? Overall, no as he has had his trouble against good defenses.

According to sports-reference.com, Trubisky threw for 3,748 yards, 30 touchdowns with only six interceptions. Sure, that sounds good but he had a couple of bad games against tough opponents. He had problems with Georgia, Duke, North Carolina State, and most of all Virginia Tech, who beat them to a the tune of 34-3. Some were close but all losses!

He’s been compared to Cincinnati Bengals’ Andy Dalton, who isn’t bad but hasn’t gotten any further than playoff games. Dalton has had his problems in the playoffs along with some bad luck as he still hasn’t sniffed the Super Bowl!

The Bengals, as much as we Browns fans hate to admit it, have had some good teams. They have been good enough to go further than they have in the past.

However, is that what the fans, owner Jimmy Haslam, and the front office want? I’d like to see them go farther than that. I realize the playoffs look good right now with the fraught this franchise has had since coming back in 1999.

Does Trubisky have the ability to get the Browns where they and the fans want to be? That is the question. He has the size, arm and mobility necessary. Does he have the Bernie Kosar smarts, the ability to process defenses, and know where the ball should be thrown? In other words, basically the smarts to be an NFL quarterback.
