When are the Cleveland Browns playing their preseason games this fall?

The opponents of the 2017 Cleveland Browns postseason were already known. What was not clear though was when exactly their games would take place.

Well, such uncertainty is now gone.

The NFL has released the schedule for the Cleveland Browns and the rest of the league’s teams’ preseason games.

More from Factory of Sadness

The 2017 regular season schedule was already revealed a couple of weeks ago. With this news, the complete 2017 schedule is now known.

In their regular season schedule, Cleveland was not given any prime time games. However, they will get one in the preseason.

Cleveland kicks off their preseason on August 10 at 8 PM versus the New Orleans Saints. On ESPN August 21 at 8 PM, Cleveland is at home versus the New York Giants.

Cleveland finishes on the road against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at 7:30 PM on August 26 and then against the Chicago Bears at 8 PM on August 31.

So, with this schedule, a few things stand out. Chicago facing Cleveland is not surprising as both teams faces each other all the time in the preseason.

Yet, this year’s matchup will be more interesting as Chicago quarterback Mitchell Trubisky will be playing Cleveland, who could have considered taking him. Not to mention the fact that Trubisky is a Cleveland area native (Mentor, Ohio). Of all the games, this game (regardless of how much he plays) will be most the talked about in all of the preseason games Cleveland has this season.

The game versus the Giants is also intriguing for two reasons. The first is that we will get to see the Browns’ draft class play firsthand for the first time.

The other is watching Cleveland going up against Giants rookie QB Davis Webb. Webb was a third round pick, but before then, he was coached up by Browns head coach Hue Jackson during the Senior Bowl.

Overall, Cleveland’s preseason games are going to be a challenge for the young team.

Sure, it would be nice for them to win a couple of games during the preseason. However, they are called preseason games for a reason. There is so much work Jackson and company will have to achieve to get Cleveland ready for the games that actually count.

I would rather see the Browns go winless in the preseason, but maintain progress so they win some games in the regular season much more than the other scenario. That other scenario is winning a game(s) in shocking, frustrating fashion, while not making the necessary adjustments to see future improvements during the regular season.
