7. 2014 Miami Heat

Entering the 2014 NBA Finals, everyone knew LeBron had the option to opt out after the season, but no one expected him to do it if the Heat could win their third title in a row.

With so many Jordan-James comparisons these days, it would’ve been a huge feather in James’ cap to win three titles in a row, which is something Michael did twice.

But Miami was exposed as the San Antonio Spurts thoroughly dominated the Heat, ending the series in five games.

The Big 3 era had come to end, and it happened a lot sooner than everyone thought it would.

Dwyane Wade had played just 62 games that season. In the season prior, he had played just 54. LeBron went to Miami to win championships, and he wouldn’t be able to do it with players on the decline.

James opted out after the season and re-joined the Cavaliers and budding superstar Kyrie Irving. The Cavs later added Kevin Love via trade and were on their way to becoming the new powerhouse in the East.
