2017 NBA Finals: Is LeBron James’ chances of winning another ring slim due to the University of Alabama?
By Ryan Rosko
Is history on the Cleveland Cavaliers’ side during the 2017 NBA Finals when a successful college football team appears in their yearly championship or bowl game?
As odd as it may seem, could there be a legitimate case to be made regarding the Cleveland Cavaliers‘ chances of winning the 2017 NBA Finals? Of course, but why do I ask? There is a good reason why.
First off, I am confident Cleveland will end up winning consecutive championships. However, things always happen for a reason. Because of that, one could argue that superstitions should be taken seriously, especially at this point of the season.
I would not describe myself as a superstitious person. In fact, at most, I’ll just wear a rally cap, and that is just rarity.

Cleveland’s star forward LeBron James will look to add another championship ring and possibly get closer to being considered as the best of all-time. Still, superstitious or not, fans should not ignore history when it comes to powerhouse teams.
The Cavaliers are exactly that, but they are not a dynasty. On the other hand, the University of Alabama’s football team is. Going back to 2012 when Alabama won football championships or just their bowl games, James won a championship later that year (regardless of the team he played for).
On the other hand, when Alabama lost, James lost later in the calendar year. So, what does all this mean for the Cavaliers during the 2017 NBA Finals?
It is simple. Regardless if one is superstitious or not, history must not continue to stay the course. Alabama lost to Clemson in the national championship. If history continues to repeat itself, Cleveland’s (and James’) chances of winning this year’s championship is not good.
Unlike most of their past series, the 2017 NBA Finals is not going to end in a sweep. There will be another championship parade in Cleveland, but it will be after the Cavs defeat the Golden State Warriors in six games.

If you look at Alabama’s run dating back to 2012, there could be more hope and confidence following one’s first glance. The reason behind that is how and when the Crimson Tide won and lost. In 2012 and 2013, Alabama won the championship. Meanwhile, James won championships during those seasons too.
Alabama then lost in 2014 and 2015. James then lost back to back finals. Yet, in 2016 Alabama won and James led Cleveland to the city’s first major championship in over 50 years!
As mentioned, Alabama lost to Clemson earlier this year. With that in mind though, this year’s NBA season was both boring but also to a degree kind of random. For example, did many really believe heading into the season that the Boston Celtics would end up with their first seed? I highly doubt it.
Things are bound to change, and what better time than now for Alabama’s streak to end? it is only a matter of time before Cleveland is announced as the 2017 champions! Yes, they are two different teams in two different sports, but the strong comparisons between Alabama and James’ teams is too much not to ignore!

It sure is interesting to think about. Sure, Alabama’s breakdown may not actually influence Cleveland’s, but it is something to really keep in mind once the 2017 NBA Finals start and progresses.
