Rumors continue to be leaked surrounding the Cleveland Cavaliers prior to the draft, but what realistically can we expect to see happen?

At the moment, the Cleveland Cavaliers are not scheduled to make a selection during the 2017 NBA Draft. Things can change quickly, but with limited assets only so much can really be done.

Since Cleveland does not have a pick, the only strong possibility is that a trade could be finalized. With the front office in limbo as the waiting game progresses regrading Chauncey Billups‘ decision to join the team or not, this year’s draft process won’t be like those in recent seasons.

If you like the idea of them buying a pick, I can see that, but what’s the purpose with their roster? Cleveland could buy a second round pick, but that is not going to help them moving forward.

More from Factory of Sadness

I am not holding my breathe on Cleveland doing something major before the night is up, but I hope something does happen. That said, I expect them to at least make a minor trade, adding another rotational player.

There has been talk of Indiana Pacers forward Paul George being dealt to Cleveland, if a big name were to be acquired.

As tempting as a George acquisition is, let me throw out another name: New York Knicks center Kristaps Porzingis. The Knicks are a mess and could very well trade their star big man by the end of the night.

Now, if Cleveland was serious about trading for him, they would need the help of a third team. That remains to be seen.

With owner Dan Gilbert calling the shots more, in addition to assistants Koby Altman and Mike Gansey taking on responsibilities, perhaps more than ever before, we should assume the unexpected.

I am not saying they are going to tear down their roster; That would be ridiculous. Instead, could they deal point guard Kyrie Irving in a trade? Who knows. Maybe including their prized trade asset, forward Cedi Osman as a sweetener for a team could be tempting for Gilbert to make a certain move.

At the very least, Cleveland should make a move to acquire a top 15-18 pick. The possibility of them doing nothing is there, but I doubt such a result will happen.

Cleveland has been willing to spend the cash before and there is no reason to stop now. Once the draft is over, the Cavaliers should have added either a mid to late first round pick or acquired an all-star player.
