Cleveland Browns: Where will the Orange and Brown scrimmage take place?
By Ryan Rosko
The annual “Orange and Brown” scrimmage held by the Cleveland Browns each year will be adjusted later this year.
With training camp coming up very soon, there is a lot to look forward to with the Cleveland Browns. Outside of the dates for training camp, preseason dates and the “Orange and Brown” scrimmage are other events worth noting.
Well, if you are planning on attending the scrimmage this year, don’t drive to Columbus, Ohio. The last two years, Ohio State’s football stadium, Ohio Stadium, has held the scrimmage, but it won’t be the location for 2017 according to Columbus Business First reporter Laura Newpoff.
Instead, the scrimmage will be played where Cleveland plays their preseason and regular season home games.
"The team is holding the game Aug. 4 at FirstEnergy Stadium in their hometown, spokesman Peter John-Baptiste confirmed, with the decision to stay close to home coming on the heels of the team canceling a bid to bring its full summer training camp to Columbus."
For those that are Browns fans living in the Columbus area, this is definitely a disappointing change. After all, this was the lone main thing associated with Cleveland that the Browns participated in outside of the Cleveland/Berea, Ohio areas.

That said, it is not a bad drive at all to go north to see Cleveland’s scrimmage. The same can be said if you are down near or in Columbus, and would like to watch them practice during training camp in Berea.
Yes, the scrimmage was popular in Columbus. Yet, as great as a scene that was there, I doubt it will be thoroughly missed.
Besides, there are other issues that must be fixed that are more crucial to the organization from some fans’ point of view. One of them is Cleveland’s horrible uniform layouts.
Some fans won’t buy Cleveland gear until the team changes their jerseys. Many of those same fans though are still willing to drive or carpool to Berea or Cleveland to watch the Browns in person.
For those of you wondering, the NFL requires each team to keep their current uniform scheme for five seasons. Cleveland still has a couple of seasons worth of obligation before any changes can be made.
I digress. One positive side of Cleveland hosting their scrimmage in their stadium is that for the rookies and organization in general, the initial goosebumps and nerve could be removed prior to the preseason.

Maybe down the road in the future the scrimmage will be played back in Ohio State’s Ohio Stadium, but it simply is what it is.
