Cleveland Browns should trade Brock Osweiler to Miami Dolphins

The Cleveland Browns just found a trade partner for Brock Osweiler: The Miami Dolphins, who recently lost Ryan Tannehill to a potential season-long injury.

The Cleveland Browns have likely been waiting to find a trade partner for quarterback Brock Osweiler, and they may have just found one in the Miami Dolphins.

After Ryan Tannehill suffered what appears to be a serious injury, the Dolphins are now desperate to find a new starter.

Enter the Brock.

The 6-foot-8 Houston Texans castoff makes a lot of sense for Miami head coach Adam Gase because Gase was the offensive coordinator when Osweiler enjoyed his only real NFL success backing up Peyton Manning en route to Denver winning the Super Bowl two seasons ago.

Additionally, Osweiler won’t be overwhelmed by walking into pressure cooker. Osweiler recently spoke about only getting reps with the second and third teams in camp with the Browns. He seemed unfazed by his place on the depth chart.

Osweiler compared it to his time in Denver, shrugging it off as “life as a backup quarterback.”

Not a lot of card carrying Dawg Pound members believed Osweiler would even make it to the Training Camp stage with the Browns. Cleveland’s front office seemed so intent on trading him, burying his name in the press release which informed Cleveland of his arrival.

About a week before the Browns first preseason contest, it’s not the craziest notion to believe Osweiler could start Week 1 for the Browns. Cody Kessler has been underwhelming. DeShone Kizer’s been good, but it’s unclear if coach Hue Jackson will want to rush him into starting duty.

With the Dolphins, Tannehill’s backups include Matt Moore, Brandon Doughty and David Fales.

Some pundits believe Miami could be last year’s Minnesota Vikings, who acquired Sam Bradford for a hefty price tag.

Osweiler may not command the first-round pick that Bradford did, but the Browns front office would probably celebrate any draft-pick compensation they could get for a guy who many believed would be released.

If Miami did make a trade for Osweiler, it wouldn’t even seem that crazy for the Dolphins to pay his entire salary. When the Browns were rumored to be dangling the quarterback during the draft, there was some speculation Cleveland would have to eat some the money owed to Osweiler.

But desperate times call for desperate measures, and Miami needs a capable quarterback as soon as possible. It’s also likely Miami won’t be the only team looking for a signal caller before the start of the season.

The Browns will undoubtedly be showcasing Osweiler this preseason, and there’s no reason Osweiler can’t look decent playing against backups in a Hue Jackson operated offense. But if your the Dolphins, you’ve got to act quickly. Your season depends on it.
