Cleveland Browns: Why a non-QB trade should happen soon

The waiting game should not be the route the Cleveland Browns choose as they look for more additions to the roster.

Just one preseason game has been played by the Cleveland Browns so far. They won’t play another one until August 21. With that in mind, it is never too early to think about upgrades at different positions.

Most notably and recently, the Buffalo Bills have been in the news making trades with main one being wide receiver Sammy Watkins being sent to the Los Angeles Rams.

Should more teams consider making trades in the coming weeks, Cleveland could lose their chance at adding a specific player. If you recall, the NFL reduced the number of cuts during the preseason from two to one.

As a result, teams will need to be more creative when adjusting their rosters. Cleveland and the rest of the NFL could always cut a player now, but the main adjustment is knowing they must eventually go from 90 players to 53.

Like the acquisition of quarterback Brock Osweiler (and a 2018 second round pick), no one saw that coming. The same approach should be made once again by the Browns’ front office. It would be great to see them make some move before next week’s game.

The closer we get to the end of the preseason, the likely higher number of teams will be competing for players x,y, and z. So, seeing that so many players have already been injured, cut, and/or traded, it is Cleveland’s time!

They have depth at certain positions in addition to 13 draft picks in 2018 at the moment. Should the Browns look to add to that number, a defensive lineman could be in play.

However, if Cleveland preferred to acquire a wide receiver, a legitimate right tackle option, or more safety help, a draft pick(s) and maybe a player could be traded away to upgrade the roster.

Let’s say Cleveland does make a deal relatively soon. If it is not by the Giants game so be it. Then again, it is not like their issues many have already seen are going to go away.

If an opportunity presents itself, the Browns need to take it.

Specifically focusing on the WR and RT positions, if another player is added via trade, the name should come out of left field. There are not many, if any really, known players at those positions on the trading block.

If (and ideally when) Cleveland makes a move, the name should be a surprise. It is evident at those positions (along with others) that the players they have there are not going to cut it. Let’s say the Browns passed on a deal that could bolster the roster. One word comes to mind: Unacceptable.
