Cleveland Cavaliers: Mixed reports regarding LeBron James’ future
By Ryan Rosko
The future of the Cleveland Cavaliers will be greatly impacted by forward LeBron James.
It was not that long ago that the Cleveland Cavaliers were on top of the NBA (both in terms of being a championship team, as well as being the league’s most popular topic). Cleveland is still one of the most popular topics discussed in the NBA, thanks in large part due to LeBron James.
Most discussions surrounding the Cavs’ star has been because of what he has done in the court. Well, that has quickly changed following the NBA Finals. Will James leave after next season or not? That is the million dollar question.
Even dating back to last season, the question has been asked. For those that does not know, James owns houses outside of the NE Ohio area — most notably in Los Angeles, California.
Given how James rejoined the Cavaliers and the recent trade speculation surrounding guard Kyrie Irving, it would not be surprising to see him leave.
NBA scribe Chris Sheridan reported that James’ last season in Cleveland will be 2017-18.
Meanwhile, Cleveland’s WEWS Sports Director Andy Baskin disputed the report.
Cases can be made on both sides. For what it is worth, Sheridan stating this news could arguably peak other NBA fanbases’ interests in James. Simultaneously, Baskin’s statement could benefit and help Cleveland’s fanbases’ psyche.

Irving should be dealt, but such a deal may not happen this offseason. Should he still be in Cleveland when training camp starts, optimism should still be high, but being extra cautious too is needed.
The lack of trust and willingness between James and Irving to work with one another will alter the Cavaliers’ success eventually.
James is not getting any younger and quality talents are still needed to help him win a championship. He could stay with Cleveland until he retires, but the goal of the Akron, Ohio native was to win a championship in Cleveland.
He accomplished that.
So, as great as it would be for some to watch James stay with Cleveland for the foreseeable future, don’t bank on it just yet. With such mixed reports, maybe the truth lies somewhere in between. Besides, nothing from James would be announced now anyways.
A whole season still needs to be played out and during that time more speculation and reports will be posted. Barring something major changing, I am expecting just one last season from James in a Cavaliers’ uniform.

Should that happen Cleveland fans, just prepare yourself as it would force the Cavs back into mediocrity.
