Ohio State football: 5 reasons the Buckeyes will beat Indiana
By Alec Hartman
5. The Buckeyes will have a distinct coaching advantage.
As if having Urban Meyer wasn’t enough, the Bucks went ahead and signed up former Buccaneers‘ defensive coordinator Greg Schiano before the 2016 season, and former Indiana head coach Kevin Wilson this past offseason. This hand-picked coaching staff raises the expectations for this upcoming season even higher than before. There won’t be any excuses for the Bucks to fall back on if team play goes awry.
The Hoosiers named former team defensive coordinator Tom Allen head coach in wake of Kevin Wilson’s resignation at the end of last season. This coaching change can only increase the Hoosiers’ chances at a positive outcome as the Hoosiers are looking to achieve their first winning season since 2007.
Allen has been a positional and chief defensive coordinator for various colleges since 2007. Teams he has coached with include Arkansas State, Ole Miss, South Florida, and last season with Indiana.
However, he has no prior experience as a head coach other than when he stepped in for the Hoosiers in the Foster Farms bowl after Wilson’s sudden resignation. The Hoosiers ended up losing that game to Utah.
Lack of experience does not tell the tale of true ability as a coach, but it certainly is a disadvantage. Allen may not have the same tricks in the bag as Wilson has had when facing the Buckeyes over the years. That in itself will keep the Hoosiers thinking a little harder about how to keep up with the Buckeyes’ plan of attack.
