Peyton Manning the reason Cleveland Browns passed on Watson, Trubisky?
Could the Cleveland Browns hopes of landing Peyton Manning in their front office be the reason they passed on MitchTrubisky and DeShaun Watson?
Sashi Brown as the leader of the Cleveland Browns football operations always seemed strange.
The team lawyer, who specializes in contract negotiations was all of sudden promoted to the head of football operations? Talk about weird, a million times over.
But what if the current front office was constructed with Peyton Manning in mind?
The Browns have no president or general manager. Brown is the executive vice president, and Paul DePodesta is the chief strategy officer.
There’s a president’s job waiting for someone to fill, and longtime Cleveland radio talk show host Mike Trivisonno is firm in his belief that the job is Manning’s for the taking.
Trivisonno, who’s broke a ton of Browns stories in the past, puts a lot of weight in WKYC-TV’s Jim Donovan report that Manning was in Cleveland earlier this week.

Donovan is the radio play-by-play voice of the Browns, and Triv reasons someone with such a prominent position wouldn’t step out of line just throwing around rumors. Donovan was the only one reporting that Manning was in Cleveland and it makes sense that he was given that tidbit for a reason.
The Browns are barely an NFL team, and the organization needed something to move the meter with their fan base.
In fact, the job’s been offered, according to Triv, based of his sources and what Donovan reported, but the decision is all Manning’s (25:33).
"“Peyton manning has a make a decision if he wants to move ere and run the Cleveland Browns, and that’s the hold up.”"
Triv also noted that the Browns passed Deshaun Watson and Mitch Trubisky last spring because they were too much of a gamble. The uncertainty around Watson and Trubisky was real. Everyone freaked out when Watson’s fastball didn’t clock more than 49 miles per hour, and Trubisky entered the draft with limited starting experience at the college level.
The Browns “settled” on Myles Garrett, because he was the safest bet, as the consensus best overall player in the draft. So far, so good.
If the Browns are going to be taking a quarterback, Triv contended that Manning should be the one to do it during the 2018 NFL Draft. The Browns possess five picks in the first two rounds.
"“Peyton Manning is coming to heaven to build a team,” Triv said."
Triv’s logic makes sense. The job probably is Manning’s for taking, but his theory does leave some questions.
The Browns didn’t have to gamble with Watson at No. 1. They could’ve taken him with the No. 12 pick, but instead they traded down for a player that was a huge gamble in Jabrill Peppers.
And what if the Browns don’t get Manning? How’s the Dawg Pound supposed to feel, knowing that the Browns have come the joke of the NFL while ownership has waited for Manning to make up his mind?.
Triv’s enthusiasm may be to be curbed, though, as ESPN Cleveland’s Tony Grossi confirmed Manning was in Cleveland, but his best information is that it was unrelated to Browns business, via TheLandonDemand.com.

Grossi did not know why he was in town, but doesn’t believe it had to do with Browns business.
