The season is still so early but the Cleveland Cavaliers are doing the right thing with the roster.

Heading into Friday night’s game versus the Washington Wizards, the Cleveland Cavaliers are trying to fix everything that has gone wrong so far this season. Of course one game isn’t going to change much, but in time it will.

Cleveland is currently 3-5 and yes the season is so early in the year, but the Cavs need to change things up. Power forward/center Tristan Thompson is going to be out for a month with a calf injury which will hurt the second unit and on occasion the first when he did start.

Guard Iman Shumpert is out for a week too. Now, both players have their flaws and I am surprised both are still in Cleveland, especially Shumpert, but their injuries and play isn’t the main frustrating issue. In fact, there are two of them. Cleveland’s defense has been poor and Dwyane Wade is looking much older.

According to ESPN, the Cavs have a -6.9 points differential. Meanwhile, Wade is averaging just 7.7 points and 3.9 assists.

Despite the injuries and poor play, Cleveland has seen the obvious need play out.

They have center Ante Zizic and guard/forward Cedi Osman just sitting on the roster not playing. Well, that will be changing.

According to ESPN’s Dave McMenamin, head coach Ty Lue put Zizic and Osman through he offense today.

Finally this news has become reality. Of course both have played sparingly, but hopefully now Lue will play both Zizic and Osman much more.

For the short-term they can help as Cleveland gets past their slow, sluggish start, along with getting back to being healthy.

Simultaneously, both players are inexperienced but there is no better opportunity to learn than actually playing in the NBA.

Osman is a better option on the wing than Shumpert and in time should prove to be a steal. Meanwhile, Zizic has upside too and his skill set will allow him to do more than what Thompson provides.

Once Lue plays Zizic and Osman on a regular basis, they will not be taken out. That is of course they don’t struggle severely. One thing at a time I know, but since it looks like they will be playing them more soon, that is a positive in an already frustrating season.
